The attacks in Paris are horrible but we must stand firm and not let the terrorists win.

When we change the way we conduct our daily lives, the terrorists win
When society gives in to fear, the terrorists win.
When we, as a society and as individuals, turn our backs on people in need, the terrorists win.
When society tries to justify its prejudice and bigotry against a specific group, be it religious or ethnic, as necessary because of a radical minority, the terrorists win.
When we refuse to stand up for what is right because of our fear, the terrorist win.
When we, as individuals, stand silent in the face of vocal bigotry by individuals and our government, the terrorists win.
When the world obsesses about an attack in Paris while ignoring the terrorist attacks in Beirut, Baghdad and Syria because no Westerns died, the terrorists win.

Today the US President said “When we send troops in, those troops get injured. They get killed. Every few months I go to Walter Reed and I see a 25-year-old kid who is paralyzed or who has lost his limbs. And, some of those people I have ordered into battle." and then uses that as a justification to not send American ground troops against what is arguably the greatest enemy the world has faced since World War II, it means the terrorists have won.
When the governors of 9 states close the door to refugees because of fear, they are bowing their heads in submission to terror and the terrorist win.

None of these politicians, in fact no American, can claim the US as the strongest nation in the world, as a world leader, when our government quivers in fear over what a few radical fanatics might do.

The war against terrorism can never be won solely with bombs and bullets on the other side of the world because as long as people and governments give in to their fears and act on their prejudices new terrorists are created everyday.

The fight against radical Muslim terrorists can only be won by focusing military action on the small minority of fanatics where they live while refusing to give in to fear and bigotry, by being openly and publicly tolerant, no welcoming and supportive, of the vast majority of Muslims in the world who are just as appalled at the actions of these fanatics and who, in reality, suffer more because of those actions than anyone else.

20 children died in school shooting - Millions of children attend school safely
More than 20 children died in car accidents - Millions of children rode vehicles safely
More than 20 children died choking on toys - Millions of children played with toys safely
More than 20 children died when furniture fell on them - Millions of children interacted with furniture safely
More than 20 children died in playground accidents - Millions of children played on playgrounds safely
More than 20 children died of food allergies - Millions of children ate safely.

Tragic as this shooting is, it must be viewed in perspective. Just as we do not try to restrict vehicle or toys or furniture or food ownership and use because a very small percentage of children die, we can not, should not, try to penalize gun owners for what is a very minor percentage of gun use. Even countries with strict gun control have had both gun massacres as well as mass killings using other weapons. It is impossible to eliminate everything a mentally ill person might use to kill others.

When I was a child, a mentally ill father walked onto a school playground during recess with dynamite and blew himself, his kid, several other kids and teachers to smithereens. Horrible? Yes. But the world did not overreact because outside of the city where it happened it was not shoved into everyone's face constantly on the news. And where it happened people put the incident in perspective - they sent their kids back to school the next day and ran some drills to remind kids to obey their teachers. No calls for turning schools into mini-jails with the kids locked in, no calls to further restrict purchases of dynamite. in other words, people reacted in an reasoned, ADULT, manner instead of hysterically overreacting.

There is NO WAY to make life 100% safe for everyone under every circumstances and attempting to eliminate everything that might, in some way, hurt someone is giving us generations of both timid fearful children and adults as well as generations of adults incapable of making responsible decisions for themselves. Just as a parent cannot protect a child 100% from ever being hurt in any way, the government cannot protect people from being hurt, nor is it the government's responsibility.

Blame for the school shooting can be laid in this order
1. The shooter
2. The shooter
3. The shooter
4. The lack of accessible mental health care for uninsured adults
5. The lack of a mechanism to treat unwilling mentally ill adults
6. The media, which sensationalizes these incidents feeding the fantasies of the mentally ill to do something bigger and badder so they will be famous.

Every time the US makes laws based in emotional reaction to some isolated incident or in an attempt to protect us from ourselves, be it 9/11, the war on drugs or this school shooting, it does nothing to prevent other incidents and does everything to penalize law abiding people and violate our human rights.

Restricting gun ownership will not end gun violence. Surprisingly enough criminals will not care if they break another law by stealing a gun (as is noted by the last two shootings where the shooter *stole* someone else's legally owned guns) nor will the mentally ill care if they break an extra law or two in route to the glorious infamous end.

Mission:Our goal is to get exposure for two beautiful yellow labs that were turned into Pinal County Animal Care and Control in Casa Grande AZ in hopes of reuniting them with their deployed soldier dad.

The two dogs, named Wyatt and Storm were turned in to PCACC on July 16th, 2010. The people that turned them in said they were watching the dogs for their soldier friend that was deployed to Iraq but due to allergies they could no longer watch the dogs. This is all the info we have.

In AZ, if you have a dog for 3 days, that dog is legally considered yours. So these dogs were considered owner surrender to the shelter.

Helping Orphaned Hounds was at the shelter on August 21st to rescue some other dogs and noticed Wyatt and Storm. The shelter told us the story about the friend turning the deployed soldiers dogs in. The shelter was overfull and due to space could no longer hold Wyatt and Storm. HOH rescued the dogs. They were not microchipped, no collars, no tags. The only information we know is that the "friends" that turned the dogs into the shelter had to be from Pinal County in order to surrender dogs to them. We have been told the shelter cannot release the name of the "friend" that turned the dogs into the shelter.

We have notified some local vets with no luck. Pinal County is pretty good size so I am sure we missed some vets. The deployed soldier may not even be from Casa Grande where the dogs were relinqushed so we have to spread this far and wide. Someone has to recognize these two dogs. They are very well behaved and they know their names so we believe Wyatt and Storm are their orignal names.

Wyatt and Storm are safe thanks to Boulder Falls Pet Resort for offering to board these two while we search for their dad. Due to the boarding facilities busy season coming up we have to find a foster home for these two until their soldier dad can be found.

Please share this story...get Wyatt and Storms picture out there in hopes someone recognizes these two beauties.

Six weeks shy of her fourth birthday, after a brief, so far unexplained illness, Willow has crossed the Rainbow Bridge to join those of her family who have gone on before her (Princess, Brownie, Jack, et al)

She will be missed by her siblings - Sawyer, Arthur and her twin Eleanor as well as Buffy, Sammi, Shadow, Kahlua, Anya, Faith, Cordelia, Chloe, Xander, Harry and Adrian and the rest of her family.

The CopperCon 4 are now a trio and Eleanor is inconsolable looking for her twin *sigh*

The Animal Rescue Site is having trouble getting enough people to click on it daily to meet their quota of getting free food donated every day to abused and neglected animals. It takes less than a minute to go to their site and click on the purple box 'fund food for animals' for free. This doesn't cost you a thing. Their corporate sponsors/advertisers use the number of daily visits to donate food to abandoned/neglected animals in exchange for advertising.

Here's the web site! Pass it on!

In Bush's proposed budget for 2009, all funding for RIF (Reading is Fundamental) has been eliminated.

If you want to help save RIF's funding.

You can personalize this message (it sends out a message to your congressmen and senators for you).

So, do it yourself and spread the word....

Thanks to renegade500 for pointing this out

So.... for twenty years he goes to a church whose minister preaches racial hatred and seperation, even calls the man a close friend and has him perform his wedding and baptise his children all the while claiming he never heard any of this controversial stuff... In fact, the most controversial theme Obama claims to have heard is the preachers sermons on infidelity.

And now it turns out that the private contractors who snooped in the passport files of Obama and, oh yes, even though it was barely mentioned, Hillary and John McCain as well, are from a company owned by an Obama supporter.

I really find it hard to trust this man... he is either an idiot or a liar

And Geraldine was right, if he were white he would not be where he is because the press would have been all over his lack of experience and his less than desirable associates and they would be grilling him over the pastor and Obama's claims not to have ever heard the pastor say these things.....

Look at the news web sites today - "Passport contractor exec is Obama supporter" tiny headline buried in between others just like the very few that acknowledged Hillary and McCain's files were also accessed, while the fact Obama's file was looked at was a huge "Breaking News" spotlight headline on all the news sites...

Hell, if the contractor was a McCain or Hillary supporter it would have garnered huge headlines as well...

Does anyone even remotely believe that if Hillary or John McCain attended for 20 years a church whose pastor preached against people of color that they would have gotten off as easy as Obama has? That if the man had also been the spiritual advisor for their campaigns that they would still be endorsed by their party? that if they still called the man " a close friend, almost family" that they would have a political career left??
