The U.S. does in fact have a serious problem with gun violence that we shouldn't minimize with facile analogies. Other nations that have enacted stricter gun control laws such as Australia and Canada have significantly lower death rates due to firearms and it's not hard to understand why in the aftermath of yet another mass killing by one individual using guns expressly designed to fire rapidly using ammunition made to cause deadly wounds.
